New Delhi, February 5: The voter turnout for the Delhi Assembly elections reached 57.7% by 5 PM on Wednesday, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The North-East district led the capital with the highest turnout at 63.83%, while the South East district recorded the lowest turnout of 53.77%, just below the New Delhi district, which saw 54.37%.

Other districts reported the following turnouts by 5 PM: South West at 58.86%, East at 58.98%, North at 57.24%, North West at 58.05%, Shahdara at 61.35%, South at 55.72%, Central at 55.24%, and West at 57.42%.

Earlier in the day, the turnout stood at 46.55% by 3 PM, according to the ECI.

In addition to the Delhi elections, the Milkipur assembly constituency in Uttar Pradesh recorded a turnout of 65.25% in its by-election, while the Erode (East) constituency in Tamil Nadu saw a 64.02% turnout as of 5 PM.

Polling for the 70 Delhi Assembly seats, along with by-elections in Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh, began at 7 AM, with tight security measures in place at all polling stations.

Amid the voting, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) made allegations of voter bribery in the Sarai Kale Khan area of the Jangpura assembly constituency, accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of distributing money. Delhi Police, however, responded on social media, refuting the claims. A statement from Delhi Police said, "Allegations of voter bribery were promptly investigated. After thorough verification by the police, the Exe. Magistrate, and the Flying Squad Team (FST), no evidence was found. Adequate police presence has been maintained to ensure peace and order."

The vote counting is scheduled for February 8.
