Delhi election results: Counting of votes begins, early trends show BJP leading in 28 seats

New Delhi, Feb 8: Amid tight security, the counting of votes for the recently held Delhi assembly elections began this morning.

Additionally, the vote counting for by-elections held in Uttar Pradesh's Milkipur seat and Tamil Nadu's Erode seat is also underway.

As per reports, the postal ballots will be counted initially and the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be opened subsequently at 8:30 am.

Early trends show the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading in 28 seats, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 16 seats and the Congress in one seats.

The AAP is striving for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is making every effort to reclaim power in the National Capital after 27 years.

Notably, the polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly took place on February 5 and it recorded a voter turnout of 60.54 percent.
