New Delhi, July 17: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed its response before the Delhi High Court opposing Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's bail plea in the Liquor Policy scam case.
The agency's reply, presented before Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, addresses Kejriwal's appeal challenging his arrest and seeking bail. CBI, in its opposition, expressed concerns that Kejriwal might exploit his close relations with officials if released on bail.
Furthermore, the probe agency accused Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party colleagues and his wife of allegedly spreading misleading information to influence witnesses indirectly. CBI's submission to the High Court highlighted that it refrained from seeking extended custody of Kejriwal due to his deliberate efforts to obstruct the investigation.
The Investigation Officer (IO) cited Kejriwal's behavior as the reason for not arranging a confrontation with a knowledgeable individual linked to the case.
Despite interim bail granted by the Supreme Court in a related money laundering case by the Enforcement Directorate concerning the Liquor Policy issue, Kejriwal remains incarcerated due to the separate corruption case filed by the CBI.
Senior advocates Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi, N. Hariharan, and Vikram Chaudhari represented Kejriwal in court, alongside CBI Special Public Prosecutor (SPP) DP Singh.
