Balasore, Nov 14: A 65-year-old woman was mauled to death by a stray dog in Bhogarai area of Balasore district on Thursday, police said.
The incident occurred when the woman, identified as Basanti Sahu, of Jayanarayanpur village under Bhogarai police limits was asleep. The dog entered her house and attacked her, police said.
The dog suddenly came and attacked the woman injuring her critically while other family members had gone to a nearby temple to offer puja as part of the five-day Panchuka rituals.
Neighbours rushed to the spot hearing the screams of the woman, and tried to save her but failed. The infuriated locals later beat the dog to death.
Police rushed to the spot being informed about the incident and seized the body. Later, the body was sent to Bhogarai hospital for postmortem after the police registered a case.
Villagers demanded the local administration to intervene to stop stray dog menace in the area. Tehsildar Himanshu Giri said that a team will be sent to the village to inquiry into the matter.
