Bhubaneswar, July 13: Heavy downpour likely on July 15 due to possible low-pressure over the Bay of Bengal, predicted SOA’s Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) in Bhubaneswar.
Director CEC, Dr. Sarat Chandra Sahu said. a low pressure area, is likely to take shape over northwest Bay of Bengal. It may lead to heavy rainfall in the coastal and southern Odisha between July 14 and 17.
The CEC forecast that the low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal is likely to form along the Odisha coast on July 15 under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation which may form over the same area the previous day.
“The systems may cause moderate to heavy rainfall at many places in coastal and south Odisha with heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southern districts between July 14 and 17,” the bulletin said.
Meanwhile, a feeble upper air trough extending from east Uttar Pradesh to south Odisha coast favoured light to moderate rain at many places and heavy rainfall at one or two places in north and coastal districts on July 13, the bulletin added.
The low pressure system may intensify into a depression on July 18 and 19 and gradually move northwards before crossing north Odisha coast on July 20 evening causing widespread and heavy to very heavy rainfall in north, western and coastal districts extending upto July 21.
