Bhubaneswar, July 29: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall in several districts of Odisha.
Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur Districts: These districts are likely to experience heavy downpours. The IMD’s Bhubaneswar regional center has issued a yellow warning for these areas, which may be scaled to higher warning levels.
On July 31, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Angul, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Boudh, Khurda, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Deogarh, and Sundargarh districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall. Light to moderate rainfall will also occur in many other parts of the state. This pattern is likely to continue for another two days (until August 2).
The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has advised district collectors to prepare for any eventuality, especially in low-lying areas. Measures such as keeping drains and stormwater channels de-congested and deploying dewatering pumps are recommended.
During the monsoon period (from June 1 to July 29), Odisha has recorded an average rainfall of 478.8 mm, slightly below the normal precipitation of 526.4 mm. Some districts, like Malkangiri, have seen large excess rainfall, while others, including Koraput, Nuapada, and Boudh, fall into the excess category.
