Bhubaneswar, Feb 2: Police in Odisha’s Kalahandi district have busted an interstate gang involved in a high-profile robbery in Dharamgarh area of the district and arrested eight persons in this connection.
The cops have also recovered the entire stolen money worth Rs 3.51 crore and seized one illegal firearm along with some ammunition from their possession.
According to Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Khurania, the heist was carried out on the intervening night of January 30 and 31 at a distillation centre under Dharamgarh police limits in the district. A total of eight accused persons with their faces covered by masks committed the robbery.
Following a complaint in this regard, police swung into action to nab the robbers. The investigation was carried out with coordination between 11 district police teams from Jharkhand and Odisha.
Acting on a tip-off, a search operation was conducted in the adjoining jungle area and all eight of the accused, hailing from Jharkhand’s Ranchi district, were apprehended. The police made the arrests within less than 24 hours of the crime and also seized the entire stolen money of Rs 3.51 crore.
Khurania further disclosed that the accused were professional criminals with a history of multiple cases and some of them have also served jail term.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
