The recently concluded 15-day Khandagiri Magha Mela in Bhubaneswar has been declared a success, marked by peaceful proceedings and record revenue collection for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). This year's mela saw the BMC rake in over ₹80 lakh in revenue, a significant ₹23 lakh increase compared to the previous year.

From the very beginning of the mela, special attention was given to maintaining cleanliness, ensuring proper lighting and drinking water facilities, and upholding public health standards. Mayor Sulochana Das had instructed Team BMC to prioritize these aspects. Focus was placed on sanitation and hygiene, with food vendors directed to maintain cleanliness while preparing and selling food.

To ensure compliance with safety regulations, food samples were collected from various stalls and tested. Notices were issued to vendors, and fines were collected from those found violating norms. A substantial 4 quintals of stale food were seized and destroyed during raids conducted at different food stalls. Around 50 stalls were inspected, and samples were sent for testing, out of which two were found to be substandard, resulting in action against the respective vendors.

Throughout the mela, a 24-hour sanitation drive was in place, with three shifts ensuring continuous cleaning. Each shift deployed 100 sanitation workers to maintain the cleanliness of the mela grounds. Supervisors oversaw the sanitation work, and dedicated teams from the sanitation and enforcement wings were deployed for monitoring. The South-East Zone Zonal Commissioner, Rakesh Kumar Patra, along with Assistant Commissioner N. Ganesh Babu, regularly inspected the area. Additional Commissioner, Shuvendu Kumar Sahu, supervised the entire operation.

Under the guidance of Commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, food safety and inspection measures were implemented alongside the 24-hour sanitation program. Continuous monitoring was carried out from February 4th to 17th. Forty sanitation experts from the EL Zone and various agencies were engaged in the efforts.

The successful completion of the Khandagiri Magha Mela is a testament to the coordinated efforts of the BMC and the cooperation of the people. The record revenue collection reflects the event's popularity and commercial success. The emphasis on sanitation and food safety ensured a healthy and enjoyable experience for visitors. By prioritizing cleanliness, public health, and regulatory compliance, the BMC has set a commendable standard for future events, showcasing its commitment to organizing successful and safe public gatherings. The mela serves as a vibrant example of cultural celebration and commercial activity, contributing to the city's festive spirit and economic vitality.
