Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: With the skyrocketing prices of potatoes in Odisha, the state government has imported loads of potatoes from UP.
At least 300 truckloads of potatoes have reached several godowns in the state with a bit solace to the consumers.
With the new imports, the prices of potatoes are expected to be eased a little if the retailers sell it in a fair price preferably Rs 40-45 a kg.
The neighbouring West Bengal had earlier reimposed curbs on selling out potatoes to other states from Friday. It had intensified the scarcity of potatoes across the state where the tuber was fetched Rs 50-60 a kilio.
On the prices of potatoes soaring up day by day, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Odisha Krushna Chandra Patra informed that the state government is committed to ensure that essential commodities like potato are plentily available to consumers at affordable prices.
Proactive steps are being taken to maintain the supply chain without any disruption despite restricted supply of potatoes from West Bengal.
