Bhubaneswar, Apr 7: The India Metrological Department (IMD) on Monday said that a low-pressure area has formed over the South Bay of Bengal and light to moderate rainfall is likely to lash several districts of Odisha.
As per the Met department, a low-pressure area has formed over the central South Bay of Bengal and is likely to move northwestward until April 8. Later, the weather system may shift northward from the west-central Bay of Bengal.
The regional weather office has forecast that the low-pressure area will continue moving northward over the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, weather expert Umashankar Das has confirmed its formation and expected path.
“A low-pressure area has formed over central South Bay of Bengal today due to the influence of yesterday’s cyclone. It is likely to move northwestwards till 8th and then move slightly northwards over west-central Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours,” wrote Das on his ‘X’ handle.
The regional weather office has predicted that light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Rayagada, and Koraput districts.
Some areas may also experience thunderstorms and lightning. Winds are likely to blow at speeds of 30-40 km/h in these regions.
According to the IMD, rain and thunderstorms are likely to lash parts of coastal and southern Odisha on April 8, 9, and 10.
