Bhubaneswar, July 11: The Sambalpur district Administration has imposed restriction on the upcoming Maharram procession in Sambalpur town.

In view of the law and order situation, the district administration has clamped restrictions on celebration of Maharum festival in the town this year.

However, Maharram procession can be held within the Sahi-Pada (street) area of town.

Generally, Muharram processions in Sambalpur originate from various areas and converge at Golebazaar Chowk, before moving towards Peer Baba Chowk jointly.

Last year, district administration had banned large religious procession, including in Muharram for a period of one year to maintain peace in the city.

The ban was imposed in the wake of communal clashes in the city during Hanuman Jayanti in April.
