Bhubaneswar/New Delhi, March 29: President Droupadi Murmu, in a powerful message about the importance of environmental conservation, shared a personal memory of her father’s deep respect for nature.
Speaking at the inauguration of the two-day National Conference on Environment - 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, she recalled how her father would bow before trees and the Earth, seeking forgiveness before using them for cooking and farming.
In her address, the President urged individuals to reflect on the wisdom of destroying natural resources that humans cannot create. She emphasized the need to reconsider the actions that harm the environment, challenging the justification behind exploiting the Earth’s resources.
Reflecting on her childhood in a village in Odisha, she shared how her family, due to a lack of resources, relied on dry wood for cooking. This experience, she said, shaped her deep understanding of environmental conservation.
