New Delhi, February 11: The National Commission for Women (NCW) has summoned podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and other content creators from the YouTube show India's Got Latent for a hearing scheduled on February 17. The hearing will address the offensive remarks made during a recent episode, which have sparked significant public backlash.
As directed by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar, the hearing aims to examine the controversial comments, which the NCW believes undermine the dignity and respect owed to all individuals. The Commission emphasized that such remarks are especially troubling in a society that values equality and mutual respect, as highlighted in a formal statement.
Additionally, Priyank Kanoongo, a member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has called for an Action Taken Report within three days. In his communication to YouTube’s Head of Public Policy, Mira Chatt, Kanoongo expressed concern that the content might violate several legal provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the Information Technology (IT) Act.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar also pointed out how Allahbadia’s comments potentially breach multiple laws, including the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, BNS, POCSO, and IT Act, among others.
