Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: In a recent development in the suicide case of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal (20) at a private university in Bhubaneswar, Odisha Higher Education Department on Wednesday announced a 24x7 help desk to ensure the safe return of Nepali students who left the campus and the welfare of other Nepali students who are residing in the campus.

An order has been issued in this regard which read, “To facilitate the safety and security of students affected by the incident, their safe return and protection of their academic interest, the Higher Education Department hereby forms a 24x7 helpdesk.”
The office order also stated that Kali Prasanna Mohapatra, Director of Higher Education, will serve as the Nodal Officer for the help desk, with Deputy Director Rajata Manasingh providing assistance. The help desk will be staffed by nine personnel who will be available 24/7.

To assist students seeking help, the Higher Education Department has also issued four phone numbers (0674-2396550, 0674-2323401, 0674-2323402, 0674-2323403) and one WhatsApp number (9124620605).
It is worth mentioning that Prakriti was found dead at the hostel campus of a private university in Bhubaneswar on February 16.

The incident sparked widespread outrage among students, with many taking to the streets to demand justice for the deceased. Angry students blocked roads near the campus demanding for the arrest of the deceased's boyfriend.
Following a complaint lodged by Prakriti’s cousin Siddhant Sigdel (24), who is also a third-year student at the university, police arrested Advik Srivastava (21) for allegedly harassing the girl. He was arrested from Bhubaneswar Airport while he was trying to flee the city.
