Bhubaneswar: Odisha bagged two gold and three bronze medals on Friday and the total medal won by the State was nine medals including three gold and six bronze medals and placed ninth in the point table of the ongoing 38th National Games 2025 at Uttarakhand.
The first individual gold medal for Odisha grabbed by Rima Bhoi in the women’s 58kg weightlifting event today. She lifted a total of 189Kg with 84kg in snatch and 105 kg in clean and jerk.
Odisha continued their dominance in the women’s rugby 7’s event by retaining their title by defeating Bihar 29-5. The defending champion remained unbeaten throughout the tournament. The team displayed a dominating performance from the group stage to final.
They outplayed hosts Uttarakhand, Delhi and West Bengal in the Pool-A matches. Their winning streak continued with a commanding victory over Tamil Nadu last night setting up a semifinal clash against Maharashtra.
The semifinal proved to be yet another one-sided contest as Odisha eves pipped Maharashtra by 31-5.
The Odisha Men’s team fought well but lost the semifinal match from Maharashtra by 7-12, however in the bronze medal match they won over West Bengal 26-10 and settled with third place. The gold and silver medals won by Haryana and Maharashtra respectively.
Swimmer Pratyasa Ray won an individual bronze medal in the women's 200m butterfly event, while cyclist Swasti Singh secured a bronze medal in the 60km road mass start event.
