Bhubaneswar, Nov 21: Kharif paddy procurement process began in Odisha with Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare minister KC Patra performing a special puja at Kalapani market yard, a government mandi in Bargarh district.
The procurement started in three mandis at Bargarh, Attabira and Godbhaga of Bargarh district on Wednesday.
"The BJP has fulfilled its poll promise and the farmers will be paid Rs 3,100 per quintal of paddy from today," Patra told reporters on Wednesday after the special puja.
The procurement process will be transparent and their payments will be directly credited to their bank accounts on time, Patra assured farmers.
Bargarh supplies maximum paddy to the state pool and we are happy to start the procurement process from here, the minister added.
Notably, Sambalpur district is gearing up for the Kharif paddy procurement from November 22.
Similarly, the paddy procurement for the ongoing Kharif season will begin from December 23 in Ganjam district, Collector Dibya Jyoti Parida said.
Kharif paddy procurement in the Deogarh district will begin from Barkote and Tileibeni blocks on December 13 and in the Reamal block from December 20.
