Bhubaneswar/ Udaipur (Rajasthan), February 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday participated in the 2nd All India State Water Ministers' Conference held in Rajasthan. The event was also attended by Union Minister CR Patil, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, and various other officials.
The conference, focused on water management, brought together 30 State Water Ministers, three Chief Ministers, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, and three Deputy Chief Ministers. Discussions at the conference covered six major themes: Strengthening Water Governance, Enhancing Water Storage Infrastructure & Augmenting Supply, Water Delivery Services (with a focus on drinking water), Water Delivery Services for Irrigation and other uses, Demand Management and Water Use Efficiency, and Integrated River and Coastal Management.
This two-day event featured six sessions addressing water conservation, management, and sustainable development, intending to reinforce cooperation between the Centre and states while discussing best practices for water management.
During the address, Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma praised Prime Minister Modi's vision for a "Viksit Bharat 2047," a roadmap outlining India's development by 2047, marking the 100th year of independence. He stated, “PM Modi has presented an outline for what India will look like in 2047 when we celebrate 100 years of freedom. We all aspire for a developed India under the leadership of the Prime Minister.”
Sharma emphasized the importance of "Jal Aatmanirbharta" (water self-sufficiency) in realizing this vision. He noted, “Water is a state subject in our constitutional system, but under PM Modi's efforts, it has become an issue of equality and cooperation among the states.”
