Bhubaneswar, November 24: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Khurania has directed the Crime Branch to investigate the recent attack on Dharmasala MLA Himanshu Sekhar Sahoo in Jajpur. The investigation will be led by DSP-level officers, as confirmed by DGP Khurania.
To maintain law and order in the aftermath of the incident, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have been imposed in the Jajpur Sadar Police Station area.
The attack on MLA Sahoo, disputes surrounding Biraja Haat, and the arrest of Bhaba Prakash Das, the brother of BJD leader Pranab Prakash Das, have heightened tensions in the region. As a precautionary measure, the MLA's security has been upgraded.
Authorities have registered 16 cases and arrested 19 individuals in connection with the disturbances.
To restore normalcy, a flag march was conducted in Jajpur City, led by Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIG Central Range, Jajpur District Collector P. Anvesha Reddy, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Yashpratap Shrimal.
DGP Khurania issued a stern warning: "Any person, regardless of political affiliation, religion, caste, or creed, who attempts to disrupt law and order will face strict action."
To bolster security, 40 platoons of police have been deployed across the district. Efforts are also underway to resolve disputes amicably, particularly those related to Biraja Haat, ensuring the smooth implementation of the Maa Biraja Temple Project.
The district administration has appealed for peace and vigilance, urging citizens to cooperate in maintaining harmony.
