Cuttack, Feb 21: Barabati Stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack will be demolished completely and transformed into a world-class stadium, informed Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) secretary Sanjay Behera today.
Modern equipments including bucket seats will be installed at the stadium and the seating capacity will be increased from 44,000 to 60,000. Along with world-class facility for players and spectators, a retail mall, hotel and office space, and public plaza is also being planned near the stadium.
Odisha Government and OCA will spend a whooping Rs 600 crore for the transformation. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will also be involved in the project.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the project on February 27 and it is being aimed to be completed within three years.
Earlier today, 5T and Nabin Odisha Chairman Kartik Pandian visited the Barabati stadium and reviewed the plans for the transformation. He also held discussions with OCA President Pranab Prakash Das and other officials regarding development of cricket in the state.
