Bhubaneswar, Mar 15: In a gruesome incident, a man allegedly thrashed his wife to death with a wooden stick over a trivial issue in Chandua locality of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district.
The deceased has been identified as Sabita Bhakta. Her husband and the accused Charan Bhakta has been arrested by the police.
The incident has been reported from Tangashola village under Chandua police limits in the district.
As per reports, a heated argument ensued between the couple, who had a love marriage six years ago and have two children aged five and 1.5 years, over a minor issue. Later it escalated and took a violent turn when Charan, in a fit of rage, allegedly started beating his wife with a wooden plank leading to her death on the spot.
He then stood guard over her body throughout the night.
In a strange attempt to mislead others, Charan was found sobbing uncontrollably beside his wife's body the following morning. However, his deception was quickly uncovered and a neighbor alerted the police about the incident.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the spot and took the accused into custody. The cops also seized the woman’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
An investigation has been launched into the matter and other details will be ascertained soon, said the police.
The incident has sent shockwaves in the locality.
