Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Monday arrested two persons including a junior clerk of Revenue Section in Lephripada Tahasildar office in Sundargarh district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The accused junior clerk has been identified as Golekh Nayak.
As per reports, Nayak was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant to process his file for passing orders to demarcate his land. The complainant had been asking Nayak to process his file for the said purpose for the past month. However, the accused demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to complete the task.
Left out with no other option, the complainant reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance. Acting on the complaint, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and nabbed accused Nayak today while accepting the bribe. A private individual named Arun Seth was also arrested, as Nayak was handing him the money he had taken from the complainant.
The anti-corruption bureau officials have recovered the entire bribe money from the possession of the accused and seized it.
Following the arrest, Vigilance officials have launched simultaneous searches at two locations associated with Nayak to investigate the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
A case has been filed in connection with the incident at the Rourkela Vigilance police station under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation into the matter is underway and further details are awaited.
