Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday arrested Deputy Collector, Land Acquisition (General), in Keonjhar district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000.
The accused official has been identified as Sarat Kumar Giri.
As per reports, the official had been demanding the aforementioned bribe from a complainant for disbursing the compensation amount of his land acquired for National Highway. Left out with no other option, the complainant reported the matter to Odisha Vigilance.
Acting on the complaint, Vigilance sleuths laid a trap and nabbed Giri while accepting the bribe. The anti-corruption bureau officials have recovered the entire bribe money from the possession of the accused and seized it.
Following the arrest, Vigilance officials have launched simultaneous searches at three locations associated with Giri to investigate the disproportionate asset (DA) angle.
