Angul, Mar 28: Odisha Vigilance sleuths today arrested the Senior Revenue Assistant at Athamallick Tahasil office in Angul district for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant.
The accused official has been identified as Satya Priya Nayak.
As per reports, Nayak had demanded a bribe from a complainant to facilitate the division of paternal land among family members and issue separate Records of Rights (RORs). Despite multiple requests from the complainant’s family, Nayak allegedly delayed the process and insisted on the bribe.
Left out with no other option, the complainant reached out to Vigilance department seeking help. Acting on it, the officials swung into action and laid a trap to nab the corrupt official. The sleuths apprehended Nayak near the SBI main branch ATM in Athamallick while he was trying to deposit the bribe amount into his account.
Following his arrest, the Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at two locations linked to Nayak to investigate the disproportionate assets angle.
A case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the Cuttack Vigilance police station and further investigation into the matter is underway, said officials.
