Bhubaneswar, January 8: The Commissionerate Police on Wednesday apprehended three individuals, including a woman from Nayagarh district, in connection with the brutal murder of a youth near the Rasulgarh overbridge in Bhubaneswar. The arrests were made within 12 hours of the crime.
The victim is identified as Sahadev Nayak, was attacked in broad daylight while riding his motorcycle near the overbridge. The police’s special squad has detained the suspects. Although the exact motive of the crime is not yet clear, authorities suspect the murder may be linked to the illegal brown sugar trade.
Sahadev Nayak, a resident of Kedarpalli slum, was an employee of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation.
On Wednesday morning, he was on his way home after dropping his daughter off at school in the VSS Nagar area when he was attacked by the accused.
Being informed, police reached the spot and rushed Nayak to the Capital Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Further investigation is underway.
