Over Rs 457 crore fines collected by DISCOMs in five Years: Odisha Minister

Bhubaneswar, March 27: Odisha's DISCOMs have collected a total of Rs 457.49 crore in fines over the past five years, Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo informed the Odisha Assembly on Wednesday.

Responding to question raised by Brahmagiri MLA Upasna Mohapatra, Singh Deo who is Energy Minister informed this information in the state assembly.

Singh Deo stated that more than 870,458 enforcement actions were carried out to address unauthorized electricity use, leading to the penalties.

The fines, imposed as per the Electricity Act, 2003, and the OERC Distribution Code, 2019, contribute to the DISCOMs' annual revenue and the Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR), benefiting consumers. The Energy Minister added that enforcement officers issue fine notices based on findings in the Physical Verification Report.
