Bhubaneswar: ATP singles ranked 783 Indian S D Prajwal Dev made headlines on Wednesday with his upset by winning over the No. 2 seed Sasikumar Mukund in three sets 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 after an intense 2-hour, 3-minute battle on the day 4 of the M25 Bhubaneswar ITF World Tennis Tour 2024 at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Centre here. Other Indian players Dev Javia and Manas Dhamne scripted win in their respective main draw matches. Unfortunately, Adil Kalyanpur had to retire due to injury, ending his singles run.
Dev Javia showcased impressive endurance, claiming victory over Adithya Ganesan (USA) with a score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 in a challenging 2-hour, 21-minute match. Later in doubles, he partnered with Sidharth Rawat to defeat the No. 4 seed team of Nick Chappell (USA) and Nitin Kumar Sinha with a nail-biting score of 4-6, 6-4, [10-8].
Manas Dhamne displayed resilience in a lengthy match against Manish Sureshkumar, emerging victorious with a score of 6-7(0), 6-1, 6-3 after 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Adil Kalyanpur, despite a strong start against No. 4 seed Egor Agafonov, was forced to retire in the third set due to injury, concluding a 2-hour, 16-minute encounter.
Odisha's wild card entrants Rishab Agarwal and Kabir Hans advanced to the doubles next round, defeating wild card entrants Pratyush Mohanty and Dharmil 6-2, 6-4. Meanwhile, Raghav Jaisinghania and Bharath Nishok Kumaran narrowly overcame the team of another wild card entrant Amrutjay Mohanty and Siddharth Vishwakarma in a thrilling match, winning 6-1, 4-6, [10-8].
