Chandigarh, Apr 6: After 130 days of fasting, Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal called off his hunger strike on Sunday. Dallewal had begun the protest on November 26 last year to demand a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops, among other issues affecting agitating farmers.

His decision to end the fast came a day after Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu appealed to him to conclude his fast-unto-death.

Dallewal has made an announcement at a 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' held at the grain market in Sirhind, located in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab. Despite ending the hunger strike, Dallewal reiterated that the fight for farmers' rights would continue.
