New Delhi, Nov 7: The Supreme Court on Thursday ruled that no outside trial of the junior doctor’s rape and murder case will be allowed in the ghastly incident except in West Bengal.
The trial of the rape and murder of the junior doctor of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College & Hospital will be conducted in West Bengal only.
A bench, headed by CJI DY Chandrachud, stroke down the oral prayer made by a lawyer who had prayed transfer of the case to a court outside West Bengal.
The apex court noted that the trial will commence from November 11 at a special court in Kolkata after charges were framed against the "sole prime accused" in the case, Sanjay Roy.
Earlier an SC bench comprising Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra had pursued the 6th status report filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the case.
Apart from it, the top court asked the CBI to file a fresh status report before the next date of listing.
Further, the SC ruled that the report prepared by the National Task Force (NTF), set up by the Union government pursuant to its order in the aftermath of the RG Kar MC&H incident, be made available to all Chief Secretaries of states and Union Territories with other stakeholders, including the doctors’ associations for their information and remedial measures.
