Balasore, Nov 8: A man in Balasore has been awarded life imprisonment on the charges of rape & murder of a minor girl.
Hearing the POCSO case lodged against the accused, identified as Rabi Singh, the Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Court under POCSO Act, Balasore, convicted Sing and awarded 20-year RI for his crime.
The offence was committed on August 27, 2024 under the Remuna police limit wherein accused Rabi Singh was lodged in the jail on the same day.
The conviction of Rabi Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act is a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice for victims of child sexual abuse. On November 5, 2024, the Additional District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Court under POCSO Act, Balasore, delivered the verdict in Special Case No. 221 of 2024, convicting Singh for his crime.
On the other hand, Rs 9,00,000 was ordered in favor of the victim, payable by the state through the District Legal Services Authority, Balasore, as a compensation to the survivor’s family members.
Worth mentioning, the sensitive rape & murder case was fast tracked and its trial was completed within a month.
While, the case was charge sheeted by the Remuna IIC Ranju Hasini, Special PP P Panda was managing the case diligently.
