New Delhi, Jan 26: Marking the beginning of 76th Republic Day celebrations, President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday unfurled the national flag at Kartavya Path in New Delhi. President Murmu was accompanied by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto who graced this year's Republic Day celebrations as the Chief Guest.
As part of the tradition, both Presidents were escorted to Kartavya Path by the President's Bodyguard, 'Rashtrapati ke Angarakshak', the senior most regiment of the Indian Army. Then the two Presidents made their entrance in the ‘Traditional Buggy,’ reviving a tradition that was discontinued for 40 years and added a regal charm to the celebrations. They were welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi upon their arrival.
PM Modi also welcomed Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife Sudesh Dhankhar at Kartavya Path.
President Murmu hoisted the National Flag amidst the playing of the National Anthem. It was followed by a thunderous 21-gun salute performed using 105-mm Light Field Guns, an indigenous weapon system.
The parade at Kartavya Path began with 300 cultural artists performing 'Sare Jahan Se Achha' using a diverse array of musical instruments from across India.
Around 10,000 special guests have been invited to witness the Republic Day parade, in line with the government's aim to enhance public participation ('Jan Bhagidari') in national events.
These guests hail from diverse backgrounds and are recognized as the architects of 'Swarnim Bharat,' according to a release from the Defence Ministry.
They include top performers from various fields and individuals who have made exceptional use of government schemes.
For the first time ever, a tri-services tableau will highlight the spirit of collaboration and integration between the armed forces, with the theme 'Shashakt aur Surakshit Bharat' (Empowered and Secure India). The tableau will showcase a Joint Operations Room that symbolizes the seamless networking and communication among Indian Army, Air Force and Navy.
