Sambalpur, Jan 27: Sambalpur is on the verge of a major transformation as the central government has taken a historic step to boost tourism in Sambalpur.
With an estimation of ₹5,000 crore master plan, it aimed at revamping tourism in the region, especially around the Hirakud Dam, the Mahanadi River, and the Debrigarh Sanctuary.
The project will focus on enhancing the area's natural beauty, wildlife conservation efforts, and eco-tourism potential.
A highlight of the plan is the upcoming installation of a monumental statue of Veer Surendra Sai, the iconic freedom fighter, inspired by Gujarat’s Statue of Unity.
To ensure the success of this plan, a workshop at the Hirakud Eco Retreat brought together experts and officials to discuss sustainable tourism strategies. There are also plans to develop the Mahanadi River into a vibrant tourist destination, much like Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan is leading collaboration between central and state authorities to ensure the project is well-planned, with strong connectivity to nearby districts.
