Getting on a jeep ride heading to the Deomali Peak in Koraput district is  nothing short of a dream come true. Arduous, exciting and risky the journey is a template which unfolded before us slowly. Situated at an elevation of about 1, 672 mtrs it is the highest peak in Odisha.

The vehicle we were in was literally roaring up at the peak located near Baranandha village about 70kms from Koraput. As the gorgeousity of nature unfolded, it was difficult to believe that a landscape 70kms from the sleepy and quiet Koraput is blessed with such a pristine and deep green forest harboring an immense repertoire of rich floras and faunas.

The hilly route is flanked either side by thick forestry both deciduous and afforested species. More we went up, the more impatient for the tryst with Deomali.

Deomali is dotted with brooks and deep valleys, and inhabited by tribes such Kandhas, Parajas, Bhumia, Malis and Bhotias. It is not only a marvel for the tourists but also to the adventurous sports lovers for hang gliding, mountaineering and trekking.

Although many amenities are still missing but Odisha government has undertaken several steps to give a face lift and showcase Deomali   as a fabulous Summer destination.

To popularize this peak amongst the travelers as a hot tourist spot by connecting the Tar roads, Hill top amenities centers, drinking water points and we could notice here and there small refreshment joints with minimum required snacks and relaxing avenues.

On the way up to the hilltop we could notice a few enthralling waterfalls.

The enormity of the mountains with forests slopping from the top to the bottom in fact were serenading to the bewitching splendor in front of us which made us take some compelling halts to enjoy the essence of nature.

More we got to Deomali hill top, the more we felt to take a leap into the arms of the hills that transcend descriptions.

Deomali Hill Odisha, standing proudly with a coat of greenery, flora and fauna at an elevation of 1672 mt making it the highest peak in the state of Odisha.

We had seen many mountains in the course of our travels. While some are all-time favourites, Deomali Peak left an everlasting impression on my  mind of the beauty, tranquility and vibes I witnessed during sunset.

It is just unbelievable and indeed difficult to narrate the visual spectacle in words.
