Nov 14: The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed the anticipatory bail pleas of senior BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra in connection with a case involving slapping a woman police ASI in Odisha’s Sambalpur.
According to the background of the case, on February 15, 2023, BJP workers clashed with the police during a protest in front of the Sambalpur District Collector’s office. Meanwhile, a female ASI reprotedly stopped Mishra on the way. Agrrieved over it, Mishra allegedly slapped her and used disrespectful language.
Following this,on the complaint of the woman cop, a case was registered against the legislator.
Mishra had filed an anticipatory bail application in the Orissa High Court seeking a sigh of relief. However, The Orissa High Court had rejected his pleas. Subsequently,Mishra moved the Supreme Court.
Hearing the pleas, a bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti rejected the bail and ordered for a fair investigation.
