New Delhi, April 15: The Supreme Court will hear on Wednesday multiple petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025.
Petitioners include AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, RJD MP Manoj Jha, and organizations like AIMPLB, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, and the Association for the Protection of Civil Rights. Several political leaders, including TMC MP Mahua Moitra and CPI, have also moved the court.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna will take up the matter.
The Centre has filed a caveat to ensure no ex-parte order is passed.
The controversial Act, recently passed in Parliament and signed by the President, is facing criticism for allegedly infringing on religious freedoms and violating constitutional rights under Articles 14, 15, 25, and 26. Petitioners argue the amendments sideline the Muslim community from managing Waqf properties and impose discriminatory restrictions.
