Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: The ongoing Budget Session of Odisha Assembly today witnessed an uproarious scene over BJP’s alleged plan to restructure Mission Shakti executive committees.
As soon as the house assembled for the day, the members of opposition Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress staged intense protests against the issue and disrupted the House proceedings.
As the pandemonium prevailed, Speaker Surama Padhy, unable to run the house, adjourned the proceedings till 12 pm.
BJD members held a dharna near the Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises after staging a walkout. They argued that there was no need to restructure the Mission Shakti executive committees. Mission Shakti members, who have been protesting at Master Canteen Square for an extended period, have claimed that the BJP government has failed to address their demands.
“Mission Shakti women do not belong to any political party. They are serving the community, and the government should support them and resolve their issues,” said BJD MLA Arun Sahu.
Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati protested near the Speaker’s podium, demanding justice for women in the state.
