Virtual tour of Kandha house at Odisha State Tribal Museum

Bhubaneswar, Sep 4: ST & SC Development Department has taken up a virtual tour to Odisha State Tribal Museum on every Sunday. The visitors can visit the Kandha House this Sunday by opening the Facebook and Twitter pages @stscdev, @scstrti, said Director SCSTRTI Prof. Dr. A. B. Ota. The Kandha is numerically the largest tribe of Odisha. They are distributed in various pockets of Southern Odisha, mostly in Rayadada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput districts forming several endogamous territorial sections, namely Kutia, Dongaria, Desia etc. with the suffix Kandha. They speak Kui and Kuvi language. The Kandha house is rectangular with no windows and a wide verandah. The main living space has a wooden platform for storage of grain and household articles. The hearth and worship space are located within the kitchen. A separate shed is made for livestock at the back of the house.
