New Delhi, November 5 : The Winter Session of Parliament is set to begin on November 25 and continue until December 20, as confirmed by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju. Announcing the session details on social media, Rijiju noted that both Houses of Parliament would be convened per the President's approval, based on the government’s recommendation.
This session will also mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution, with a commemorative event scheduled for November 26, recognized as Constitution Day, in the Central Hall of Samvidhan Sadan.
Among key legislative priorities, the government will aim to advance the Waqf Amendment Bill, currently under review by a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Additionally, the much-debated One Nation, One Election bill could be introduced, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent emphasis on simultaneous polls for the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. He argued that such a move would streamline resources, strengthen democracy, and propel India toward its developmental goals. Modi also highlighted the government’s direction towards implementing a Uniform Civil Code for the country.
The One Nation, One Election proposal, however, faces opposition. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge labeled it as "impossible," asserting that consensus in Parliament would be required for any progress on the matter, which he doubts will be achievable.
Another anticipated topic for discussion during the session is the upcoming results of Assembly elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra, due on November 23, which may significantly impact the discourse in both Houses.
