Berhampur, Dec 2: MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur is currently embroiled in a fresh ragging controversy, with an MBBS student accusing seniors of harassment.
The college’s anti-ragging committee has scheduled a meeting this afternoon to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations.
According to sources, a junior student has filed a complaint with the anti-ragging cell, accusing seniors of ragging and forcing him to perform their tasks. The student claimed that he was subjected to both mental and physical abuse when he refused to comply with the seniors’ demands.
The controversy follows a similar complaint made the previous day by the father of a second-year MBBS student, who raised concerns about ragging by some seniors. The father, whose daughter is enrolled at the college, also reportedly requested that the college authorities prevent boys from visiting the girls’ hostel.
Suchitra Dash, the dean and principal of MKCG Medical College, emphasized the institution's strict zero-tolerance policy toward ragging. She assured that the college’s anti-ragging cell is committed to taking swift action against any reported incidents.
Several seniors have been expelled from the college hostel in the past after being found guilty of ragging. Despite the enforcement of stringent anti-ragging laws, the issue remains widespread across educational institutions in India.
