Bhubaneswar, April 22: A blistering heatwave has gripped Odisha, with Jharsuguda making headlines by registering a record-breaking 46.2°C — the highest April temperature in the district's recorded history. This new peak surpasses the previous high of 46.1°C, recorded on April 20, 2010.
The intense heat isn’t limited to Jharsuguda. Mercury levels soared across the state with Hirakud recording 44.7°C, Sambalpur at 44.6°C, Rourkela 42.8°C, Kendujhar 39.9°C, Chandbali 38.7°C, Bhubaneswar 36.7°C, and Baleswar 35.5°C.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further rise in temperatures, warning that the heatwave conditions are likely to persist. According to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre, daytime temperatures may climb by another 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next three days.
Districts including Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundergarh, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Bargarh, and Nuapada are expected to witness maximum temperatures consistently hovering above 43°C.
Authorities urge citizens to take necessary precautions to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours.
