Bhubaneswar, April 22: In view of the prevailing heatwave conditions across Odisha, all schools and 2 colleges in the state will remain closed starting tomorrow, announced Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Monday.

In addition to educational institutions, all Anganwadi Centres and Sishu Batikas will also remain shut from Tuesday onwards.

The decision was taken following a forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has warned of a potential severe heatwave in several districts.

The closure aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and young children, the Minister informed during a press briefing in Bhubaneswar.

However, Minister Pujari clarified that all scheduled examinations will be conducted as planned.

He added that the decision came after a detailed review of the weather situation by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, who directed immediate measures to protect students from the extreme weather.

Meanwhile, the IMD has also predicted that the intense heatwave conditions are likely to persist in many parts of Odisha until at least April 26.
