New Delhi, November 4: Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the importance of education in one’s mother tongue during the 32nd meeting of the 'Kendriya Hindi Samiti' in New Delhi on Monday. Shah stated that empowering children and youth to study, analyze, and make decisions in their mother tongue is essential for realizing their full potential and contributing meaningfully to national development.
Highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiatives since 2014 for the preservation and promotion of Indian languages, Shah noted that this period has seen substantial progress in increasing the significance of Hindi, including Modi’s use of Hindi on international platforms. Shah discussed the availability of engineering, medical, and primary and secondary education in Indian languages, calling it a transformative move that nurtures linguistic diversity in India.
Shah outlined three major initiatives led by Modi to strengthen Hindi in the past five years:
The Hindi Shabdsindhu dictionary's creation envisioned it becoming the world’s most comprehensive dictionary in five years.
Establishing the Bhartiya Bhasha Aunbhag (Indian Language Section), which leverages technology for translation to support all Indian languages.
Organizing the Official Language Conference across India, aimed at fostering a deeper understanding of Hindi’s role as the official language.
Shah proposed two further initiatives: a long-term policy for the development and preservation of Hindi literature and its grammatical forms, and translating modern educational curricula into Hindi and other Indian languages. He also underscored the goal of making Hindi universally accepted and adaptable.
The meeting included prominent attendees like Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and members of the Parliamentary Committee on Official Language, among others.
