Cuttack, Nov 5: A first-year MBBS student at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack has filed a complaint of ragging against final-year students, addressing the issue with the Dean of the college on Monday.
According to sources, the student detailed the verbal abuse he experienced to the Dean.
In response to the complaint, Dr. Lucy Das, the Dean of SCBMCH, has formed an anti-ragging committee to investigate the allegations.
She confirmed that the college has received complaints via WhatsApp messages. “We have initiated an investigation following verbal communication from the students,” she stated. “While preliminary findings show no physical assault, we have taken precautionary measures by deploying security personnel on each floor of the hostel.”
The anti-ragging committee visited the hostel on the same day and interrogated several students about the incident. Parents of the victims have also reached out to the college authorities. One parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said, “My child and another first-year student were targeted by senior students.” The administration has assured that strict actions will be taken against any students found guilty of ragging.
The anti-ragging squad has submitted its preliminary report, and college authorities have pledged to implement stringent measures if the allegations are substantiated.
Notably, earlier five fourth-year MBBS students from MKCG Medical College were expelled from their hostel and banned from campus for six months due to a prior ragging incident.
