Dhaka, April 10: A Bangladeshi court has issued new arrest warrants for 18 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wajed Putul, in connection with a corruption case. They are accused of illegally acquiring a residential plot through fraudulent means.

On Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib accepted the charge sheet submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which led to the issuance of the arrest warrants. As the accused individuals are currently on the run, the court's decision follows their failure to appear.

“The court has issued the arrest warrants after reviewing the ACC's charge sheet,” said Mir Ahammed Salam, the prosecutor representing the anti-graft body. “Judge Zakir Hossain Galib has ordered the ACC to present its investigation report by May 4, when the court will hear the case related to the land lease for a residential plot in the Purbachal area, located on the outskirts of Dhaka.”

The case revolves around the acquisition of a plot of leased land in Purbachal, which is managed by the state-run Rajdhani Unyan Kartripakkha (RAJUK), and is part of ongoing investigations into alleged corruption within the country's housing sector.
