Bhubaneswar, April 15: In a bid to foster milk production across the state, the Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation (OMFED) on Tuesday credited a financial assistance worth Rs 31.1 crore to its farmers who contribute to the milk production.
The incentives were credited to the bank accounts of dairy farmers in as many as 11 districts,
According to reports, at least one lakh dairy farmers have registered with OMFED received the incentives through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system today.
The incentive amounts vary for farmers, proportionately based on their milk productions September 2024 and February 2025, an OMFED official said.
The OMFED earlier had announced incentives ranging from Rs 1 to Rs 5 per litre of milk. Besides, the state government also extended financial support to the State-run dairy cooperative.
Among the best milk producing districts, Cuttack district dairy cooperative society has the highest number of registered farmers at 33,000, followed by Balasore with 18,000. In contrast, Mayurbhanj district has the lowest number, with just 531 registered dairy farmers.
In terms of financial disbursement, the highest incentive ranging Rs13 Crore, was credited to farmers under the Cuttack cooperative, followed by ₹5 Crore to Balasore. Similalry,
Sambalpur society received Rs 4.37 Crore,Balangir-Kalahandi-Nuapada cluster Rs 2.62 Crore, Puri Rs 2.32 Crore and Mayurbhanj milk producers’ society received a financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh, said OMFED Managing Director Vijay Amruta Kulange to Press.
