The arrested woman has been identified as Jelam Rani Panda, a resident of Boita village under Khantapada Police Station in Odisha’s Balasore district. According to police investigations, she might have planned the kidnapping in Bhubaneswar in a desperate attempt to save her own child, who is reportedly suffering from kidney failure. She is believed to have hired contract criminals to carry out the abduction.
The kidnapped child's mother, Jayanti Mallik, expressed immense relief upon learning that her son had been found. “I felt so happy when I heard the news. I had no idea who had taken my child. I never imagined he would come back. Lord Ram brought my child back to me. Strict action must be taken against the accused for committing such a heinous crime,” she said emotionally.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed immense relief and happiness on Tuesday following the safe return of the kidnapped infant. He praised the swift and effective response by the Odisha Police, calling it a commendable effort.
Taking to his social media account on ‘X’, CM Majhi wrote, “The news of the infant being safely reunited with his visually impaired mother has brought me great relief. Seeing the smile on her face after holding her child again filled me with overwhelming joy. The successful rescue within just three days of the incident reflects the prompt and decisive action taken by our police to ensure justice for a poor and helpless mother. This effort is truly commendable.”
