TVS has dropped a bit of a surprise: they're bringing out a CNG version of the Jupiter scooter. A lot of people are pretty excited about this, since it's the first of its kind in India. But...should you actually hold out for it? Let's take a closer look.
CNG Scooter: The Trade-Off
We've all wanted CNG scooters, right? To save some bucks on those daily commutes. And yeah, it's cool that TVS's Jupiter is the first CNG scooter in the world. However, there's a catch that might be a deal-breaker for some.
The regular Jupiter is known for its super roomy under-seat storage, but this new CNG model? That's where they've had to stick the CNG tank. So, you're going to lose that storage space. Instead of keeping your stuff under the seat, you'll have to hang it up front.
It's a classic "you win some, you lose some" situation. If saving money on fuel is your priority, then the Jupiter CNG could be a good option. But if you rely on that under-seat storage, you might wanna stick with the regular petrol version. TVS says the CNG version will give you a total range of 226 km, though.
Under the Hood and Launch Details
The scooter's got a 1.4 kg CNG tank and a small 2-litre petrol tank. It runs on a 124.8cc engine, delivering 7.1 bhp and 9.4 Nm of torque. Design-wise, apart from the storage difference, it's pretty similar to the regular petrol Jupiter. As for when you can actually buy it? TVS hasn't given any specifics yet, but the expectation is that it'll arrive in the second half of 2025.
