Koraput, April 14: At a time the ragi or finger millet is going to redefine the neutritional benchmark in Odisha, Koraput distric has registered a new record in ragi cultivation in this year.
The district has yielded at least 1,398.75 metric ton ragi this season, said the Millet Mission and the State Agriculture Department’s recent database.
The bumper crop in this season, has significantly surpassed the seven-year high, official sources said on Monday.
With the new achievement, the Koraput district administration directly transferred funds to the millet farmers' accounts, providing them with necessary financial support extended by the government of India including the Minimum Support Price(MS
Thanks to the State government's 'Shree Anna' scheme, for actively supporting local ragi farmers, to get ample success this time.
The local farmers initially received incentive payments, followed by substantial procurement through 21 agricultural cooperatives spread across 14 blocks in the district, accumulating the ample harvest.
At least 14,574 farmers were benefited from the cash incentive with the MSP with an additional rate of Rs 45 per kilogram cultivating the Odisha staple in a grand scale.
