Ganjam, April 14: With the violent thunderstorm that hit the Rushikulaya River Mouth on Sunday, the rookery was feared devastated hampering the mass hatching & hatchlings of Olive Ridley turtles.
On being informed of the incident from the wildlife experts and forest officials, Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Ahuja on Monday visited the spot and took stock of the matter.
Ahuja witnessed the mass hatching of the rare turtles at the rookery and reviewed the consequence of the inclement weather on the mass breeding.
Meanwhile, he discussed with the local forest officials on the standardized measures for the hatchlings and asked them to stay prepared to take more surveillance measures in future.
Among others, Sunny Khokkar, Divisional Forest officer (DFO), Berhampur accompanied with the Chief Secretary who vividly inspected the natural phenomena.
