Bhubaneswar, April 12: ‘Jaago’, a student-centric movement launched in the Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA) several years ago, has been successful in inculcating moral and humanistic values among students, SOA’s Vice-President Saswati Das, said on Saturday.
Members of ‘Jaago’ have been engaged in providing free tuition to slum children besides providing them with school bags and uniform. The movement, which was launched in the campus of Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) in 2007, has since spread to other campuses of the university, Das said.
Das was speaking at a program organised to give away prizes to winners of the ‘SOA Jaago Talent Hunt’ competition and distribute school bags to little children.
Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of SOA, who also addressed the gathering, said that the university had taken up such programs for the betterment of the society.
The program was also addressed by Prof. Neeta Mohanty, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Manjula Das, Controller of Examination, Prof. Pradip Kumar Sahu, Dean, ITER and Prof. Renu Sharma, Additional Dean (Student Affairs). Prof. Anita Panda, Mentor of Jaago, proposed the vote of thanks.
Prof. Manas Kumar Mallick, Director, ITER, Prof. (Dr.) Anurag Satpathy, professor at the Institute of Dental Sciences and Prof. Meera Das, professor at ITER were present.
