Bhubaneswar, Apr 10: A truck driver lost his life, and three policemen were seriously injured in a tragic series of road accidents that took place on National Highway-16 near the Baramunda over-bridge in Bhubaneswar late Wednesday night.

As per reports, a mini-truck carrying chickens was going from Cuttack to Khordha when the driver lost control and the ill-fated vehicle hit a road divider. It later crashed into an electric pole, and overturned.
The driver was severely injured in the mishap. Unfortunately, when he managed to crawl out of the wrecked vehicle, a speeding heavy vehicle ran over him. As a result, he died on the spot.
Moments later, Khandagiri police arrived at the scene to manage traffic. While they were on duty, another speeding truck from the Vani Vihar side hit three police personnel and fled the spot.
The injured policemen were identified as PCR van driver Chittaranjan Pattnaik, constable Manoj Meher, and another officer. All three of them were seriously hurt and were immediately taken to Capital Hospital for treatment and their condition is said to be critical.
Top police officials, including DGP YB Khurania, Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh, and Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena, visited the hospital to check on the injured officers and review the situation.
Efforts are on to trace the vehicles involved in both incidents and further investigation into the matter was underway, said the police.
